摘要

In a letter to the Department of Interior(DOI)on February 19,Virginia Governor Tim Kaine(D)requested that DOI's Secretary Ken Salazar postpone the Minerals Management Service(MMS)Outer Continental Shelf(OCS)Special Lease Sale 220,that would sell leases for offshore Virginia.Kaine explained that the state's energy policies, enacted in 2006 under Virginia Code, chapter 3 of title 67,"support federal efforts to determine the extent of natural gas resources 50 miles or more off the Atlantic shoreline, including appropriate federal funding for such investigations."The policies do not, however, support the exploration for oil or production of gas or oil, which would be allowed under the lease sale,he said.
