The electric power and natural gas industries weighed in last week on legislation being considered by the House Financial Services Committee to reform over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives markets. A joint letter signed by 13 major trade associations called for "an appropriate balance between establishing market oversight rules that allow for a broad use of market-based risk management tools while providing regulators with the ability to establish a high level of transparency and the tools needed to protect consumers against market manipulation and systemic risk."
