Valuable oil recovery:process improves extraction and lowers costs

Worldwide,during the 2003/2004 harvest,olive oil production increased significantly by approximately 12 percent to 2,859 million tonnes.As production volumes increase,the focus is increasingly directed at the by-products of oil extraction;with growing competition,the recovery of the valuable olive oil found in the residues,and the reduction of disposal costs becomes ever more attractive from an economic perspective.Against this background,Westfalia Separator Industry and Westfalia Separator Andalucfa S.L.in Ubeda-working together with a local Spanish olive oil mill near Granada-have developed a special decanter process that specifically targets the preparation and treatment of the process wastewater from an oil mill.
