RECYCLING WATER, RECOVERING OIL

The oil industry uses a tremendous amount of water. An average of seven barrels of oily waste water comes out of the ground along with a barrel of oil. This water is generally contaminated with solids and emulsified oil. It must be treated or disposed of in state certified wells underground. Industry water requirements have strained water stressed areas of the country like the state of California. Underground disposal of this water is causing earthquakes in Oklahoma in record num-bers. The usual ways of acquiring and disposing of oil waste water is becoming a major industry issue and causing state governments to clamp down on opera-tions.
