Inve workshop covers marine larvae solutions

Interest in farming 'new' marine species such as cod, haddock, halibut and turbot continues to rise around the industry. In the next couple of pages, we report on some of the latest developments in this sector. Inve solutions in larval fish rearing- with particular emphasis on cod, turbot and halibut - were the subject of the Belgium-based larval feeds specialist's first work-shop on cold water marine species held in Bergen, Norway, in October. The two-day session attracted 70 to 80 participants -"a complete mix of people from research and industry", Eamonn O'Brien, Inve solution support executive and larval fish nutritionist, tells FFI. "The participants included people with experience in salmon who want to set up cod hatcheries; fishermen whoalso want to set up cod hatcheries; as well as people already involved in the cod industry, like the companies Troms Marine and Profunda." Atlantic salmon and trout dominate Norwegian aquaculture, but there is growing interest - and investment - in the culture of marine species such as cod, turbot and halibut.
