IN a bid to establish whether attitudes to escapes have really changed, Fish Farmer spoke to a number of key figures from within the industry. Attitudes to containment: There is a general consensus that there has been a big shift in the attitude on fish farms - whereas the odd fish lost at grading was of little concern in the past, every escape is now recorded. However, Don Fowler of Boris Nets pointed out that this does not necessarily mean companies are spending more on containment. "It's become quite a big issue - particularly with the rise in the value of stock versus the cost of a quality net," he observed. "But while there has been a change in attitude amongst some of the companies, others are still going for the lowest price."
