We met in the splendid setting of Little Wittenham Manor, the Oxfordshire home of Sir Martin and Lady Wood, in the shadow - writes David Taylor - of the familiar profile of Wittenham Clumps. The morning was fine, the wind fresh but warm, and some 120hosts, guests, dogs and an intriguingly abundant crop of babies set off across the Northmoor Trust fields into the nearby Paradise Wood.
