Scottish Sea Farms is currently trialling a new camera system at their Dury Voe sites in Shetland - one that was developed after close collaboration with camera manufacturer Orbit GMT.The new HD camera affords 360 degree vision, has the capacity to be fitted with an environmental monitoring system when required and allows up to 12 cages on one site to be monitored simultaneously by one person - a huge advantage according to site manager Robert Isbister, especially in the winter. 'We've very short days in Shetland in the winter months,' Robert explains,'so the window for feeding, and monitoring the behaviour of the salmon at feeding time, is also very short. This makes the new system ideal, as it allows us to feed all the cages at once. Also, although you have the option of monitoring individual cages, you can also view all 10 at once, so don't have to waste time flicking between screens.'
