Arecent visit to a Hjaltland Seafarms site near Scalloway, off the west coast of Shetland's Mainland, revealed an interesting trial underway, with lumpsuckers being deployed in the cages at Setter Voe in a bid to lessen sea lice numbers - the first trial of its kind in British waters.The trial, which is part of a joint initiative between Shetland Aquaculture, Hjaltland and the nearby NAFC Marine Centre, is still in its early days, but it will be interesting to see whether these friendly yet misshapen fish might provide an alternative to wrasse in the ongoing battle against sea lice.
