Over the years and despite building quite a big client list, you can never predict how much demand there will be from year to year. Initially, when I bought the sawmill some 14 years ago, I was in the plummy position of having at least a day a week guaranteed. This was a pretty good position to start from as I didn't need to find much more to make the whole enterprise viable. On top of which was the stuff I wanted to produce from my own timber. Anyway, that level (roughly 70 days per year) continuedlong enough to see the mill bought and paid for. No, it didn't make me wealthy, but it was another string to our bow, and the fact that we offered the service often led to other work. We could legitimately say we supplied a 'pip to plank' forestry service.
