A chain you can sharpen with neither a file nor any skill - sounds too good to be true. I have looked at these Oregon PowerSharp kits from time to time when I've been in our local Husqvarna dealership, and although the staff there tell me they have sold lots of them to amateur chainsaw users, they have, unsurprisingly, sold none to professional operators. But it is an intriguing idea that needs some explaining, as it seems impossible that you could sharpen a chain by clipping a box onto Lhe bar and simply revving the saw.The first thing to note is that the special chain used is nothing like a conventional chain; it is almost an inside-out version of what we know, and decidedly spiky to handle - more so than conventional chain - so I really wouldn't recommend handling itwithout gloves. The cutting teeth have a curved face and a flat edge, but while you sharpen the curved part of a conventional chain, it is the flat part of the PowerSharp chain that is sharpened. This is done using a curved grindstone held in the PowerSharp attachment that fixes over the bar nose. The chain is run up to a fairly modest speed and then the grindstone inside the PowerSharp is pushed against the chain, by pressing against the 'foot' that protrudes from the attachment. This puts an edge on the flat cutters.
