When he retired from an occupation that involved spending a lot of time away from home Keith Blacker wanted to start a second career that he could share with his wife. They decided to buy 29 hectares (69 acres) of mixed woodland on a steeply sloping site in Montgomeryshire, mid-Wales. While earthmoving equipment was on-site to construct the roads they moved part of the hillside to create a level wood yard that would include space for a timber drying shed and a small sawmill.
