Imperial College London's newly-established MSc degree in forest protection and conservation continues to attract graduates at a time when recruitment onto forestry and other tree-related courses is generally slow. It combines course work with a five-month research project and the wide choice in topic and location offered for the latter is one of the course's key selling points. Dr Terry Mabbett reports. The 2003/4 class of students at Imperial College London certainly made the most of the new forest protection and conservation courses research choices on offer. Projects were carried out in commercial forestry, protection and conservation in Africa and Central America and on topics of interest and concern nearer to home in the UK and Europe.
