摘要

Undertaking an accurate compensation for the absorption of energy in a towed streamer seismic survey is a complex problem. In order to apply compensation,a Q-factor has to be accurately estimated. The use of the commonly applied spectral ratio methodology for Q estimation is reviewed here (Tonn, 1991). This method compares a frequency spectrum at a time T with a reference spectrum by taking the ratio of the two. Investigations in the following section show how the choice for the reference wavelet can also significantly impact the Q values obtained.
