Parameters for the irrigation of field scale vegetables in Germany are presented. Data were collected from the literature. The amount of additional irrigation in normal and dry years with 4 different soil water availabilities is shown. The crops cabbage, carrot, onion, potato and sugarbeet were used. In dry years with low soil water available, the additional irrigation can be as high as 210 mm in late cabbage. In normal years, 50-100 mm is needed in most crops. Detailed irrigation data are presented for the Federal State of Thuringia. The labour use is shown for 4 different irrigation methods. With 4 doses and 100 mm, it can vary from 1.25 to 6.2 h/ha. To compensate irrigation costs additional yields are necessary. They are calculated under Thuringian conditions as an addition of 50% (45 t/ha) in cucumbers, 37% (6.5 t/ha) in runner beans, 37% (35 t/ha) in white cabbage, 25% (14 t/ha) in potatoes and 21% (13 t/ha) in onions.
