Dickite is a raw material for the ceramics industry, but the material from Saraburi, Thailand, also has a long history of being used for carvings such as Buddha statuettes (1), tables, jars and animal figurines. For a time the Thai dickite was mistakenly thought to be pyrophyllite, a commoner mineral of similar appearance and some similar physical properties. The dickite from the Thai deposits has been categorized in three broad grades: i.e. grade A (high purity) grade B (less pure) and grade C (low quality, unsuitable for carvings).
