摘要

Hallux claw toe deformity is frequently a component of cavovarus deformity. The claw hallux is characterized by hyperextension of the metatarsophalangeal joint (MPJ) and flexion of the interphalangeal joint (IPJ). It is usually due to the loss of muscle balance around the ankle and foot. The primary claw toe deformity of the hallux is due to weakness of the flexor hallucis brevis and abductor hallucis muscles, which are overpowered by the extensor muscles. The secondary clawing of the hallux develops from an imbalance between weak anterior tibial and strong peroneus longus muscles. The stronger peroneus longus pulls the first metatarsal into plantar flexion and pronation.
