Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) includes a diverse group of medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not considered to be part of conventional medicine. Surveys have found that CAM is widespread with estimates that 1 in 3 adults in the United States uses CAM therapies. Marijuana is one example of CAM that has been used in medicine as an analgesic, appetite stimulant, and nausea suppressant. In addition, marijuana has been reported to lower intraocular pressure suggesting a potential role for marijuana in the treatment of glaucoma.
