Mexico has promptly closed its borders, at least for the time being, to live poultry and poultry products from Arkansas after USDA announced that 15,000 birds had been destroyed due to apparent exposure to avian flu. Mexico's agriculture ministry opted for a low-key response by announcing that the national sanitation service would stay in close contact with its sister agency in the United States in order to stay abreast of developments.
