Latin organic food exporters bristle at new EU rules

Latin American organic food exporters cringed last month when the European Union issued new restrictions on food products labeled organic (see FCN June 18, Page 23). Latin exporters say the rules reflect the determination of EU organic purists to enforce their standards on the rest of the world. In deference to the demands of European organic farmers, who oppose any planting oftransgenic crops, the regulation is riddled with prohibitions against biotech commingling.
