FDA continues to add to its list of "safe-to-eat" tomato growing areas to keep from destroying the $2.2 billion tomato market. But pressure is building to identify the source of contamination. As of June 12, some 228 illnesses in 23 states have been attributed to the unusual Salmonella Saintpaul fingerprint. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention knows of 25 hospitalizations and is investigating one death, a man who already was suffering from cancer.
