For the record, when in 2004 flower breeder and bulb grower Jan Pennings joinedthe board of Keukenhof, he had been exhibiting his daffodils and hyacinths there for over 20 years, but had not once set foot in the head office. "Keukenhof used to be a somewhat closed world where decisions took place behind closed doors. But we have been through a period of enormous change transforming our organisation into a more open and transparentone. I believe we've succeeded in making Keukenhof more accessible for growers/exhibitors, making it a place where they feel not only at home but where they can also benefit from a show which is a natural shop window."Pennings made sure to involve growers as active participants. "In my second year, I organised an Open Day for exhibitors. In the beginning only a handful of them showed up, but now, 8 years later, we welcome around 70 to 80 growers each year. It's the perfect occasion to catch up with our exhibitors and relay to them our plans and theme for the upcoming edition. It's a great honour to become an official Keukenhof supplier and this comes with huge benefits. Our exhibitors for example may use our Keukenhof logo in catalogues and on their business papers to create value for their own business."
