Genomatica and DuPont Tate & Lyle announce commercial-scale production of bio-based BDO

Genomatica and DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Company LLC (DT&L) announced the first commercial-scale production of 1,4-butanediol (BDO) using a bio-based manufacturing process. BDO is used a solvent in cosmetics and personal care products. This campaign, which spanned five weeks in late 2012, produced more than 5 M lbs (over 2000 tonnes) of BDO by direct fermentation using conventional sugars as feedstock.
