Fertilizer sales have remained low across the board over the past two weeks as wholesalers and co-ops wait for new AN/CAN prices. Scant nitrogen sales are not unusual for this time of year and fresh buying interest is likely to emerge in October-November. AN producers will deliver against existing orders through October, but have not yet put out new offers for November- December. Similarly, new CAN sales are not expected to take off until November at the earliest as old orders are delivered. Producers are expected to push both AN and CAN prices up by around ?5/t for next sales. Buyers will want to be reassured that if they accept higher prices, the market will not fall back in the spring.
