FSU output drives world cereals gain: FAO

Outlooks for global cereals production in 2016-17 remain firm, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The FAO predicts 1.5pc growth to 2.57bn t, due mostly to growth in FSU wheat and barley production. Wheat's production forecast hit a record high again, reaching 746.7mn t from the 742.4mn t estimate from October. This is largely attributed to increases in Russia and Kazakhstan, which have also reached new records.
