USDA forecasts record wheat stocks in 2015-16

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has raised its global wheat supply estimates for 2015-16, partially owing to reduced usage, and forecasts stocks at the end of the year to be at a record high. Global wheat supplies for 2015-16 have been raised by 1.2mn t on higher starting stocks and production, according to the USDA's latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates Report. Global wheat production remains at a record high and is raised by 0.5mn t, led by increases from Russia, Pakistan and the EU. This, combined with lower consumption, has resulted in end-of-year stock estimates being raised by 2.2mn t to a record 232mn t. This is 9pc higher than stocks recorded at the end of 2014-15.
