Fertilisers is an essential input in agriculture. It is needed for increasing production of foodgrains and other agricultural crops, in the face of serious liitations on increasing land area under cultivation The fertiliser industry in India has played a pivotal role in facilitating the required increase in use of plant nutrients for achieving the goal of self-sufficiency in foodgrains production on one hand and rapid and sustained agricultural growth on the other.
