Increasing the cooling performance of centralised refrigeration plant by using a downstream ice generator

Investigations were carried out within thescope of a research project to determine whether it istechnically feasible to increase the coolingperformance of existing centralised refrigerationplant by means of a water-ice mixture. After detailedtheoretical contemplation, an extensive programme oftests was undertaken using mixtures of ice chippingsand water as well as floe-ice. The investigationsfocused on the refrigeration and ice output, on the flowcharacteristics of the water-ice mixture in thepipelines and on the heat transfer in the coolers.Various measures were also examined for the continuousdetermination of the ice content.
