Slim modelling in the transport of metallic raw materials as integral part of a transport data bank

Within the framework of the special research section 525 an information system based on a data bank, contains information on the worldwide locations of the primary copper industry and on copper collecting systems in selected countries, was developed at the RWTH Aachen. Software tools, which can be used for worldwide representation from the transport view and optimised from various standpoints, were developed on the basis of this information. Attention is focused primarily on the software tool "slim modelling" in this article. This tool is used to determine overseas distances occurring in the case of the copper primary material flow. A worldwide transport network, which is so flexible that new handling areas can be integrated, was extended during development of the slim modelling.
