Sterlite to liquidate gypsum stockpile by end-2010-11

STERLITE INDUSTRIES (India) Limited, one of the leading copper producers in India, is aiming to liquidate all of its accumulated stocks of phosphogypsum by the end of fiscal 2010-11 (1 April-31 March). The company produces sulphuric acid and phosphoric acid at its copper smelter complex at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. The acids are sold both to the fertilizer and chemical sector. The phosphogypsum, which is produced as a by- product of phosphoric acid production, goes into an on-site Secured Landfill (SLF) based on CPCB guidelines.
