Sitting on a goldmine

The outlook for the precious metal is improving as analysts predict ongoing upside in share prices of companies in the sector that consolidated to drive growth. While the share prices of most gold companies continued to perform strongly on the back of robust commodity prices for most of 2011, there was a sharp sell-off towards the end of the year. However, a surge in the price of gold in early January resulted in the share prices of many companies recovering losses. And based on analysts' medium-term commodity price forecasts, any weakness in 2012 could be seen as a buying opportunity.
