The retail furniture sector has thrown up surprises recently. Fantastic Holdings and Nick Scali are the two main ASX-listed players. The latter went public in May 2004 when Fantastic was a market darling. Fantastic's shares have outperformed Nick Scali's for most of this time. But the former has been living on promises, wrestling with acquisitions that didn't work and operational problems in its supply chain. Now Nick Scali is delivering the goods, but after a profit downgrade by Fantastic and the fall in its share price many will be asking whether it is oversold.
