The Evolution of a Specialty Society AUGS: Thirty Years in the Making

I would like to sincerely thank the members of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) for allowing me to serve as your president this past year. It has been my honor and pleasure. This year, as we mark the 30th anniversary of the society, I would like to take this moment to reflect on the journey and evolution that has taken place and what your leadership is doing to ensure success for the future. To map that journey and to put it in to context of other like societies, I am going to rely on the work of social scientists and business leaders that study the evolution of successful nonprofit societies. I would like to use that frame work to describe a 30-year journey that leads us to your AUGS in 2009.
