A wise man once said, "In my life, I have had many problems - most of which never happened!" He was referring to the common tendency to worry about bad things -unwelcome events that might come to pass, plans that might go wrong - that don't actually happen. A lot of mental and emotional energy can be frittered away by fretting about such non-problems. Of course, that doesn't mean we should not try to anticipate future difficulties. Being prepared for likely obstacles increases our chances of overcoming them if they actually materialize. However, a lot of our time and energy can be wasted in pessimism and negativity about what could go wrong. And in most organizations, there is usually someone who can be relied on to find lots of "good reasons" for not doing something - especially if it's worthwhile!
