Latin America's largest gold mine demonstrates environmental responsibility with ISO 14001

Minera Yanacocha is the largest gold mine in Latin America. Based in Cajamarca, 800 kilometers northwest of Lima, Peru, and using open pit land excavation processes, the mine produced over 2.6 million ounces of gold worth USD 66.6 million in 2006. At peak production times Yanacocha employs over 10000 workers. To date the company has invested some USD 500 million in joint development business and government business and government skills with the joint participation of the community, the government and the private sector.
