摘要

Being prosecuted by the Environment Agency on three separate occasions is not something that Herefordshire arable farmer John Chinn is proud of. He takes the environmental responsibilities of running his 1200ha (3000-acre) asparagus, potato and combinable crop business at Cobrey Farm just outside Ross-On-Wye seriously. The run-ins with the Environment Agency started 10 years ago when the run-off from composting onion and potato waste went into a small stream. The irony of the situation, he explains, was that the compost was deliberately sited well away from any watercourse. "Unknown to us, there was an old land drain close by. Liquid found its way into the drain and polluted a small stream."
