Bale wrap: heat shows up forage spoil problen

Some farmers and contractors have experienced problems with plastic bale wrap in the heat this summer. Some farmers were reported to be in negotiation with wrap manufacturers in a bid to head off legal action because of spoiled forages. However, while the performance of some films appears to have been an issue, the reluctance of many UK farmers to pay for more than four layers on a bale has also been a contributory factor. Contractors who have applied six or even eight layers say failures have beenmarkedly reduced and one major film distributor told Farmers Guardian that colour, as well as number of wraps, was a relevant factor.
