The government recently restated its election pledge that it intends to triple the number of apprentices in the agrifood sector.This may be a political target, but it is based on the premise that if the sector is to fulfil its full potential in the future UK economy, then it needs radical change in its workforce. The significant challenges we face as farmers and growers will seem much less daunting if we have the highly skilled and motivated workforce in place that we need to deal with them.
