In 2000,ISO voted to support the development of standards for the personal financial planning service sector and established ISO/TC 222 to guide the process.The event was significant for two reasons:It represents the first time that a professional service industry has undertaken a project to develop ISO standards for its practitioners,and it underscores the growing influence of this relatively young profession on consumers worldwide.Dede Pahl,secretary of ISO/TC 222 and chief operating officer for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards,Inc.,in Denver,Colorado (USA),provides below an overview of the emerging profession of personal financial planning and updates us on the activities of ISO/TC 222.
