Host farmer Willie Davidson - a former chairman of the Scottish Association o f Young Farmers' Clubs - and his wife Jennifer and son Alisdair were devastated to lose all their stock on their 2,000-acre hill and upland unit of Poldean at Wamphray, near Moffat. "Its not just the loss of stock at the time but the longer-term effect o n cash-flow," said Mr Davidson. "Even this year; we are only back to 90 per cent of the output we had before foot-and-mouth."
