Biebuyck, the Belgian manufacturer of high-precision mechanical equipment, has over 40 years developed a complete range of rim finishing machines for glass or crystal tableware. The company's main production consists of: crack-off and rim fire-polishing machines for tableware, sawing, grinding, bevelling and polishing machines for the edges of vases, lighting and decorative glassware and glass decoration cutting and engraving lathes. Biebuyck has been refining its mechanical crack-off technique for more than 30 years. This involves scribing the moil of the tableware item using a scribing wheel, then heating up the area with a thin flame in order to generate a thermal shock. The technique enables production of high-quality, thin edges, thus adding value to the processed glasses. The company has also been developing the implementation of a laser cutting device for almost 10 years, which replaces scribing and the heating up operation. This laser crack-off equipment has been installed in several glassworks, its advantages including: no mechanical contact with the item during the crack-off operation, high processing quality and the possibility of processing obscurely shaped items.
