Larry Jackson remembers vividly how he got the nickname Mountain Man.It was the late 1990s, and Jackson, working for Farmland Industries, had invited his good friend Gary Kinder, then with a steel storage manufacturer, to help inspect some grain tanks in Idaho. As the two later headed back toward Salt Lake City, UT to flyhome, Jackson suggested that he knew some back roads that would make it a quicker trip. "About five or six hours later, we were still cutting through back roads," Jackson said. "Gary said, 'You know this place well, don't you Mountain Man.' "The story is now 15+ years old, but one Jackson and Kinder recall fondly. The name Mountain Man stuck for Jackson (it is part of his e-mail address), a grain industry leader who retired in 2010 to Chino Valley, AZ, but remains active as a consultant with Sioux Steel Co., where he now works again with Kinder.
