When it comes to being a good neighbor, the managers at the 12.5-million-bushel Central States Enterprises elevator in a suburb of Fort Wayne, IN (260-749-0022), prefer upright concrete storage over a temporary storage pile. In 2011, the privately-owned company constructed "Tank 3A," a 1-million-bushel jumpform concrete silo that replaced a 1.1-million-bushel storage pile at its New Haven elevator. "Our property is zoned heavy industrial," says Vice President-Operations Larry Shepherd, "but we're relatively close to a residential neighborhood. It's better to get that grain off of the ground and secure inside an upright silo."
