IFI Update: New Standard for Inspection of Titanium Fasteners for Surface Contamination

The IFI is constantly on the look-out for fastener evaluation areas that are not covered adequately by industrial or government standards, and which result in supplier-purchaser conflicts. In recent years, the IFI has created standards for qualifying platings and coatings on high-strength fasteners (IFI 144), for the inspection of internal and external lobed recesses and heads (IFI 562), the acceptance of nicked or heavily plated threads (IFI 166 and 566) and the requirements and procedures for calibrating thread gages (IFI 301).
