摘要

A recent report from USDA's Economic Research Service confirms what many dealers probably have suspected: As fertilizer prices continue to rise, overall consumption of crop nutrients remains flat, and is even declining in the Corn Belt. "AgriculturalResources and Environmental Indicators," released in December 1994, found that fertilization in the Corn Belt -- which uses more commercial fertilizer than other regions in the U.S. -- declined in all three nutrient areas between 1984 and 1993: nitrogen(from 3.3 to 3.0 million tons), phosphate (from 1.6 to 1.3 million tons), and potash (from 2.4 to 2.0 million tons).
