By offering benefits in terms of higher operating temperatures, and the fact that they adhere to machine parts for longer than mineral oils without carbonising, synthetic lubricants are now being used more and more on IS machines. However, they are significantly more expensive than mineral oils so it is vital that they be used as efficiently as possible to realise the full cost benefits of their use.
