THE pesticide industry in China has grown exponentially since 2003, and so has its membership organizations. Today, the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPI A) has more than 450 members that generate almost 90% of China's total agrochemical output. In an exclusive interview with FCI, CCPI A Chairman Luo Hai Zhang says the industry remains robust despite mounting macroeconomics. And although Chinese producers are prioritizing export markets, Luo says one of the most viable ways Chinese producers can grow is by capturing domestic market share as smaller, less sophisticated companies close in the shadow of higher manufacturing costs and lower product prices. Luo predicts that more than half of China's producers will disappear in the next five to 10 years, and the survivors must adopt automation and other technologies to outcompete the rest of the market.
