摘要

I think readers will agree that this is a great collection of research articles. All relate to mental health issues faced by women and practitioners. Lehti et al. conduct an exemplary literature review in which they explain that although the experience of depression is grounded in disparate structural elements of culture, treatment for depression is often rooted in the culture of the Western world. The next two studies (Wallis et al-about "Pigtown," USA, and Cwikel et al.-about Israel) make a theoretical contribution to the literature, as the authors explain that in order to improve the quality of life for those whom personal security is compromised continuously, one must examine the social context of behavior, stress, and apparent ill health. Although it is the social body rather than the individual that needs urgent intervention, women in such environments often need to fend for themselves to stay alive and protect their families.
