Detection of rota virus from diarrhoeic calves using various tests and comparison of sensitivity of these tests

In the present study 50 faecal samples collected from diarrhoeic (27 calves, 16 buffaloes and 07 crossbred) and 15 from non-diarrhoeic calves were screened for the presence of rota virus particles using three serological tests viz. AGPT (Agrose Gel Precipitation Test), DCIE (Discontinuous counter Immuno Electrophoresis) and ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immuno-sorbent Assay). These tests were performed as described by Kwapinski (1972), Wallis and Melnick (1971), Ellens and Leeuw (1977) and Murphy et al., (1981) respectively. Eight other faecal samples from diarrhoeic calves were also tested for the presence of rota virus using PAGE-SS (Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis). The technique was based on Harring et al., (1982).
