I think it is true to say that many of us admit that we often find writing more of a grind than a pleasure, especially if we are uncertain how to do it, or if we are distracted by the telephone ringing, or a diary full of appointments. However, our written communication should fundamentally reflect the essence of what we would say in face to face conversation. Too often we express ourselves in ways that we would not normally use in a conversation. Ensure you are consistent in both verbal and written communications. Business writing can be split into two categories - internal correspondence such as reports, minutes of meetings, e-mails, or external correspondence, such as letters, advertisements or promotions. Your purpose in writing should be clear from the outset and get to the point straight away. Most fabricators or installers would much rather be doing something else and it does not take much for them to move on to more pressing areas.
